Listen to This ProgramSisterlocks was launched in June of 1993 in San Diego, CA. At that time, according to Dr. Cornwell, California was a wasteland when it came to natural hair care. Dr. C had been doing hair her whole life, but had no clue about how to start a business. She spent a good part of that first year trying to partner with established beauticians and locticians around the country. None of them wanted any part of Sisterlocks! This podcast touches on a few points that you may want to explore further:

Hello to Dr.Cornwell and Carol Jean Jenkins on your very 1st podcast, enjoyed it very much and it brought back dear memories of the days when we were working, crashing at your house and having the homecomings at the Handelry Hotel. It has indeed been a journey. Carry on, and I expect to see you at one of the up-coming events.

This podcast was truly informative. The podcast provided some history of the brand that multiplied my interest as a trainee. Similarly, my journey as well as others in my sisterlock training class will mimic the journey of Dr.C in some areas. Myself and most of my sisterlock classmates, have journeyed the brand as a client with new hopes of being the consultant, which speaks to a more personal journey. When journeying as a client and consultant prospect it sends the message that you believe in the sisterlock brand. This now international brand that was birthed out of the kitchen, then later out of a house, and has now reached me and my class across time and space. We are talking 30 years later in a whole other state. A brand that was once rejected is now embraced and changing natural hair as we know it. I am proud to understand the evolution of sisterlocks and the meaning behind the name. This is truly a product of sisterhood and uplifting of one another built on the strength of natural beauty and sisterhood. Literally a hair care lifestyle that is designed for afro texture hair that ironically offers more with less at the same time. Explicitly this system built sisterhood at its foundation while Dr.. C worked on her sister's hair fast forward to now with sister's being constructed on the common grounds of hair. Not only does this promote beauty, but promotes businesses, income and ultimately self appreciation and value.
